We celebrate the talent of Yuina Takamizo, saxophonist for a special appearance at the Japanese Embassy on March 7, 2024.

Yuina Takamizo, a saxophonist born in 1990 in Akita, Japan, has been based in Belgium since 2013. She began playing the saxophone at the age of 12 after several years of piano training. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in music from Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Japan in 2013 under the guidance of Shinichi Iwamoto, and graduated with distinction from her Master’s program at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2017, studying with Alain Crepin and Simon Diricq.

Following two recitals on the theme related to her Master’s thesis, “Women in Contemporary Music” (March 2017: Maison Culturelle Belgo-Roumaine Arthis, June 2017: Auditorium of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels), she regularly performs at cultural events dedicated to female creation (December 2019: “De la Force poésie Cinq poétesses roumaines,” Europalia, Brussels, March 2020: Literary meeting Paroles de femmes à Bruxelles, Maison Culturelle Belgo-Roumaine Arthis, Brussels).

Her group Duo Kanadé, a project conceptualized from the musical eclecticism of Japanese-Western fusion, collaborates with Aki Sato, a musician specializing in traditional Japanese music (Koto and Shamisen). They have held several concerts, notably at Japanese public institutions in Belgium. Collaborating with Miko Shimura, a contemporary dancer, Duo Kanade has performed in school performance projects for the Federation des Jeunesses Musicales Wallonie-Bruxelles in 2022-2023.

The film “La ballade de Yuina,” produced as part of the cultural promotion of the 2019-2020 academic year at UCLouvain FUCaM Mons, was successful following its screening at the opening lecture (October 2019, Auditorium, UCLouvain FUCaM Mons).

With a Master’s degree in Didactics from the Royal Conservatory of Mons, she now teaches in various educational institutions in the Brussels and Walloon regions, including the Academie d’Arlon, la Botte du Hainaut, and ARTS2 Ecole Superieure des Arts.
